BEFORE A TOOTH IS EXTRACTED, WHAT HAPPENS

Your dentist will examine your affected tooth and surrounding gums. To determine the extent of bone damage, your dentist will also take dental X-rays. Tell your dentist about any medications, vitamins, or supplements you are taking. Treatment and sedation options will be discussed with you once all information has been gathered.

TH EXTRACTION WHAT HAPPENS?

The affected tooth and surrounding gum tissue are first numbed with local anesthesia. Using specialized dental instruments, your dentist will gently loosen your tooth and carefully remove it. When your tooth is badly decayed or has broken off at the gum line, your dentist may need to make an incision in your gums to access it. After removing your tooth, the socket will be cleaned and disinfected. Also, your dentist may place a dental bone graft to prevent bone loss in your jaw. To promote healing, stitches may be placed.

WHEN A TOOTH IS EXTRACTED WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Your dentist will place a piece of gauze over the extraction site and ask you to apply firm, steady pressure. Blood clots form when bleeding is slowed. Clotting promotes healing and reduces the risk of dry sockets. You’ll remove the gauze once the bleeding ceases. During the first 24 hours, you may experience light bleeding.

TOOTH EXTRACTION

There are many reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted, including severe damage or decay. An extraction of a tooth can improve your oral health and eliminate bacteria.

How does a tooth extraction work?

During a tooth extraction, your tooth is completely removed from its socket. It is sometimes referred to as “pulling” a tooth.

What is the best time to extract a tooth?

It is preferable for healthcare providers to save natural teeth whenever possible. It’s also possible that other restorative methods like dental fillings or crowns won’t suffice in some cases. A badly damaged tooth may need to be removed if it cannot be repaired. If you have the following conditions, your dentist may recommend tooth extraction:

  • Cavities (severe tooth decay).
  • Fractures in the teeth.
  • A tooth that is impacted.
  • Teeth that are crowded.
  • Gum disease that is severe.
  • A tooth luxation or other dental injury.

WHO PERFORMS TOOTH EXTRACTION?

Tooth extractions can be performed by dentists and dental specialists, such as oral surgeons and periodontists. Although general dentists perform plenty of extractions, more complex cases are usually referred to oral surgeons or periodontists.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF PULLING A TOOTH

There are several benefits to tooth extraction. The most important benefit is that it reduces harmful bacteria that can damage your teeth and gums. Damaged or decayed teeth can wreak havoc on your smile, causing a domino effect of problems. For optimal oral health, you should remove your affected tooth. A tooth extraction can also relieve dental pain almost immediately – especially if your tooth was severely damaged or infected.
